Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Under the patronage and presence of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Cabinet Minister, Minister of Tolerance in the UAE and President of the UAE Genetics Disease Association, the Excellence in Oncology Care (EIOC) Congress 2019 that is held from the 17 to 19 October 2019 in Dubai.  The 3-day Oncology Care congress is organized under the theme ‘Strike out the Word Cancer” in partnership with UAE Genetic Diseases Association.  In his keynote speech at the inauguration of the EIOC 2019, His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan addressed the top-notch speakers, specialists, and doctors saying: “You are at the forefront of the new and innovative genetic approaches to curing cancer.  You recognize the need to remove the stigma associated with this disease. You advocate the importance of improving screening, detection, and prevention of cancer. You also understand the importance of adopting environmental and lifestyle changes and marshal research in the rapid development of the latest cancer cures.  Above all else, you agree that all segments of society must work to support cancer patients and their families.”

His Excellency added: “I stand before you here today as the Minister of Tolerance in the United Arab Emirates.  As I think about the great number of people participating in this conference, I am reminded most strikingly of the spirit of generosity that is central to the understanding of tolerance. The source of tolerance lies in a generous heart.  To be tolerant, means to be magnanimous, and to treat others with kindness and indulgence, with a wide-open heart.  This conference is generous from the outset – the way in which you, together, confidently step forward to strike out WORLD cancer – cancer that affects all people, no matter who they are, where they are from or where they live.  You are coming together for ALL.  And I strongly support your efforts and your generosity of spirit.”

Dr. Shaheenah Dawood, President of the Organizing Committee said: “We have 3 key objectives this year. First, we are committed to improving access to knowledge for everyone and to that end we have taken one step further to launch the “APMENA molecular tumor board virtual platform” to help support oncology professionals to be consistently updated, expand their knowledge base, build their capabilities, and to apply best practices for patient care, by providing practically relevant and evidence-based knowledge in the field of oncology. The interactive platform will allow for the most current information from major symposia, access to a knowledge centre and the latest news, summaries of pertinent information from major publications. The ultimate aim is to keep the oncology community connected.”

She went on saying: “Secondly, we strive to foster collaborations both nationally and internationally. I am proud to announce that we certainly have achieved this goal - from collaborating with key opinion leaders, to enhancing relationships with international institutions, to developing scientific bonds with industry. We are also very proud of our cooperation with the UAE Genetics Disease Association for the past 4 editions in achieving our goal towards our patients. With the support of Dr. Maryam Matar, Founder and Chairperson of UAE Genetics Disease Association, EBTESAM was established and will organize a number of workshops on the last day of the conference. These workshops aim to document survivors' experiences, develop services from the perspective of patients and work on research to identify the genetic mutations of tumors and find genetic detection tools compatible with the genetic code. Finally, our ultimate goal is to improve quality of life for all our patients.”

EIOC which stands for Excellence in Oncology Care is considered a platform for not just one cancer specialty but a holistic approach to 14 sub therapies within Oncology.
