Dubai: Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) announced improvements to the membership service for its public libraries and the introduction of the golden membership dedicated to select target groups, based on the two main objectives of the Dubai Model Centre, which are to raise the efficiency of services and increase focus on customers. This comes in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into a smart city, and in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to bring about a qualitative shift in the level of government services in Dubai across all levels.

Mohammed Jassim Al Al Araidi, Director of Public Libraries Department at Dubai Culture, said: “This initiative comes as part of Dubai Culture's commitment to the continuous improvement of the services provided at its public libraries and the development of projects that contribute to achieving customer satisfaction and enhancing the welfare of society. Initiatives of this nature are a top priority in Dubai and the UAE and come in line with the Authority’s corporate strategic pillar for achieving institutional excellence and improving the happiness of customers. Accordingly, the Authority has made some improvements to the membership service at its public libraries, in line with the vision of the Dubai Model Centre, which aims to make a qualitative leap in the level of government services in Dubai across all levels, in addition to our keenness to provide government services that would meet the aspirations of all Dubai residents.”

Membership in the Dubai Public Library allows members to borrow knowledge materials outside the library, use the internet for free, and obtain reduced fees when using library services, which can be obtained through the Authority's website or the Dubai Public Library app.

Al Araidi stressed that consolidating the service, golden categories have been created targeting cultural visa holders and their children, owners of private libraries and their children, writers, artists, writers and their children, Dubai Culture employees and their children, public benefit associations, and the private sector. Those who quality will take advantage of a bundle of special features, including extensions on the periods for borrowing books and a larger number of borrowed books, depending on the membership categories.

Gold family members get the right to borrow 35 books instead of 25 books, while adults can borrow 30 books instead of 20 books and children under the age of 12 can borrow up to 20 books instead of 10. The borrowing period is 28 days for regular members and 35 days for gold categories.

Al Araidi added: “The Authority has also made improvements to the customer journey, reviewed all the service information and procedures, and ensured that the process is streamlines and seamless. The application for the service is now completely electronic through the website and the DPL app and takes under 15 minutes to complete.”

Dubai Culture manages the network of Dubai Public Library branches, which includes eight libraries for adults and seven for children, in addition to multi-purpose halls and study halls, providing community members with sources of knowledge in the light of efficient services and advanced technologies. All the library's branches are connected to each other and other modern libraries through the latest connectivity and networking technologies, allowing for easy access to a wide range of books across a multitude of topics in both Arabic and English.
