• Empowering Female Entrepreneurs initiative aims to increase women’s participation in the SME sector and diversifying the national economy

Abu Dhabi, UAE:  Al Bayt Mitwahid Association has launched the Empowering Female Entrepreneurs initiative, in collaboration with Khalifa Fund and the Social Care & Minors Affairs Foundation (SCMAF). The initiative aims to support 25 women from vulnerable backgrounds who have promising business ideas, by providing mentorship and guidance in the field of entrepreneurship and business development in phase one of their pilot progamme. The initiative also aims to increase the number of women in the SME sector and enable them to contribute to the diversification of the national economy.

Initially, a selection committee comprising of representatives from Al Bayt Mitwahid, Khalifa Fund and SCMAF will decide on the participants and women who will benefit from the training program based on a specific selection criteria. The first cohort for the Empowering Female Entrepreneurs’ initiative will receive training over a period of 5 months in various fields including project management, finance, and more. Upon completion of the training workshops, each entrepreneur’s project will be evaluated by a committee made up of representatives from the initiatives’ partners.

His Excellency Saif Ali Al Qubaisi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Bayt Mitwahid Association said: “Al Bayt Mitwahid has always led community-based campaigns and initiatives, and has continued to play its key role in the community, and this pilot programme is an exemplary addition to such initiatives.

This initiative was developed to provide entrepreneurial guidance, mentorship and training for women based in Abu Dhabi, and we hope to expand it to all Emirates in the future. We are proud to have such strong and influential partners like Khalifa Fund and SCMAF on board to launch this programme, which looks to further develop and improve women’s entrepreneurial skillset.”

He added: “We are seeing a surge of women enter the entrepreneurial work force at an exponential rate, which reflects positively on the UAE’s inclusive and supportive SME environment.  We’re excited about the opportunity to play an active role in the enhancement of this sector by making space for more women to become entrepreneurs, even if that means starting from home. We believe that this initiative is a stepping stone towards enabling women to achieve financial independence as well as develop their skillset and ability to contribute positively to the national economy as we prepare for the coming 50 years”.

Mouza Al Nasri, Acting CEO of Khalifa Fund: “Empowering Female Entrepreneurs is an integral initiative which supplements Khalifa Fund’s continued efforts towards spreading and enhancing the culture of entrepreneurship, and empowering women. Moreover, the initiative provides us with the opportunity to give aspiring female entrepreneurs a platform that will improve their business skillset and enable them to navigate within a competitive market.

She added: “Khalifa Fund will support the success of this initiative through consultations, training sessions and workshops, in alignment with our ongoing efforts to nurture and support female entrepreneurs. Our initiatives, and collaborations such as this, emphasize the vital role women play as contributors to sustainable development.”
