KUWAIT Kuwait’s Ministry of Health said on Tuesday that two Kuwaiti women who came from Britain were infected with the new coronavirus variant as it recorded 578 new infections over the past 24 hours.

According to the ministry, the duo underwent PCR tests before boarding the airplane from Britain but another PCR test conducted upon arrival at Kuwait International Airport showed they were infected with the variant, the ministry’s spokesman said in a statement carried by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The ministry also announced two more deaths from complications caused by the deadly virus over the past 24 hours.

This brings the total number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Kuwait to 158,822 and the virus-related fatalities to 950.

According to the ministry’s spokesman, there were currently 5,936 active cases in the country out of which 53 were receiving treatment in intensive care units.

A total of 8,845 swab tests were conducted over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of COVID-19 examinations in the country so far to 1,415,197, Al-Sanad said.

Earlier in the day, the ministry announced that a total of 440 more patients recovered from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of recoveries in the country to 151,936.
