RIYADH – In a major crackdown on piracy infringements, the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) has blocked 1,110 websites.

The authority confirmed that it initiated the legal measures after detection of their violation of intellectual property rights and other regulations pertaining to broadcasting, movies, television series, etc.

The punitive measures have been taken after carrying out 4,657 online inspections to monitor the suspicious websites.

The SAIP warned that it will not show any leniency with regard to taking punitive measures against the violators.

“All the necessary legal measures will be taken against the copyright law violators,” the authority said while emphasizing that it will continue to hold accountable the violators in all the fields where the authority has the jurisdiction to protect intellectual property rights.

The authority called on citizens and residents to support the SAIP efforts in the event of their detection of any violations to communicate with the authority’s official channels, through social media sites @saipksa, e-mail Saip@Saip.gov.sa and toll free number for customer service 920021421.
