RIYADH — The CEO of VirtuPort’s seventh MENA Information Security Conference 2019, Eng. Samer Omar stressed that the Cyber Saber Hackathon will continue to support the Saudi talents in achieving new heights in the Cyber Security industry through hands on application of several cyber-attack and defense tactics noting that the Cyber Saber Hackathon will be held on Sept. 9-10, 2019.

The Cyber Saber Hackathon is sponsored by Integrated Telecom Company (ITC). According to the CEO of ITC, Eng. Ghassan Itani, “Cybersecurity remains one of the critical elements in ensuring a successful digital economy. ITC’s sponsorship of the Cyber Saber Hackathon is one of our initiatives to invest in corporate social responsibility in line with Vision 2030, where our youth will play a critical role in the future of defending and protecting our company and the overall digital asset.”

The Cyber Saber Hackathon is characterized by its ability to provide a holistic simulation environment that will allow contestants to experience real world hacking and breach scenarios of vital sectors including financial sectors, airports, oil & gas industry among others through a state-of-the-art model smart city where the students will get to interact with it through their computers. What distinguishes the hackathon’s model smart city is students will experience and witness the implications of cyber attacks and the importance of equipping themselves with the right knowledge to face the attackers.

The organizers of the Hackathon highlighted that the competition has been designed to prepare the contestants for the challenges they will face in protecting the organizations they will work for.

The third edition of the hackathon is considered to be one of the most important competitions in the region. In the last two editions, more than 20 Saudi private and public universities participated. For this reason, Eng. Samer Omar urged the universities and students to register quickly before the registration is closed. The hackathon is open for universities to register or for students to independently register.

Samer Omar explained that the purpose of the Cyber Saber Hackathon is to provide students with a deeper look into cybersecurity and the dangers every organization faces. Furthermore, it will contribute towards uplifting the Saudi youth and qualify them to protect the Saudi information infrastructure from cyber-attacks. He further added that Hackathon Competition helps the participants to understand the need for regulatory, technical, and procedural skills required in protecting networks from breaches or disruption of services or access to information.
