ADDIS ABABA- Ethiopia's Amhara Democratic Party (ADP) nominated Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's security advisor Temesgen Tiruneh as president of the Amhara region, to replace Ambachew Mekonnen, who was killed last month in an attempt to seize power there.

"Temesgen Tiruneh is nominated by the central committee of the party to be the president of the region," the ADP said on its Facebook page. The ADP controls the Amhara regional government and is also one of four parties in the governing coalition in the national capital Addis Ababa.
