Muscat: Commercial operations at the Amin Photovoltaic Power Plant have started with a capacity of producing 100 MW of power daily.

This is enough to cover the needs of 15 thousand houses.

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) said in a statement: "PDO is pleased to announce the start of commercial operations of its Amin Photovoltaic Power Plant. The 100-megawatt plant located near Nimr will provide power for PDO’s interior operations and is the world’s first utility scale solar project to have an oil and gas company as the sole buyer of electricity."

According to PDO, the plant will contribute to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 225,000 tons, equivalent to the use of 23,000 cars and save fuel consumption equal to 95 million cubic meters of gas annually.
