Dubai –  The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) has awarded a contract to Dubai-based Belhasa Six Construct, a subsidiary of The BESIX Group, to establish the first super tall tower at its Uptown Dubai district.

Six Construct’s entity won the contract to construct the 78-storey building after extensive competition with international bidders, it said in a statement released on Sunday.

The project named ‘Uptown Tower’, which offers views of Dubai’s waterfront and iconic skyline, was designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture.

“Uptown Tower replicates the brilliance of diamonds through its faceted glass façade that illuminates the interior spaces with natural light while filtering out harsh glare,” Six Construct added in its statement.

This “reflects the level of interest from the global marketplace to partner with DMCC, and be a part of an ambitious project that will add a new landmark to Dubai’s iconic skyline,” the world’s flagship Free Zone and Government of Dubai Authority executive chairman Ahmed Bin Sulayem said.

Meanwhile, general manager of BESIX Contracting Middle East Olivier Crasson said the award was “a significant moment” for his company, noting that DMCC’s Uptown Dubai district was “one of the most exciting projects in the region.”

He added that Six Construct would look forward to collaborating with and working alongside DMCC to deliver a “unique and inspiring new destination” to the emirate of Dubai.
