The new passenger terminal building has handled more than 920,210 passengers and 9,176 flights since it opened in January.

It also catered to more than 20 commercial airlines in the same period, according to a Bahrain International Airport (BIA) statement yesterday.

“These figures represent a major achievement and reflect an uptick in travel despite the challenges of the pandemic,” it added.

“Although global passenger traffic has yet to reach pre-pandemic levels because of worldwide travel restrictions, BIA continues to provide a world-class travel experience while showcasing Bahrain’s heritage and its advancements in aviation.”

The new $1.1 billion passenger terminal complex in Muharraq aims to enhance connectivity and has the capacity to handle 14 million passengers a year.
