US tech giant Amazon is cashing in on the vehicle leasing market in the UAE with the launch of its online car rental services on Sunday.

Through its home services unit, the e-commerce powerhouse is offering customers across the country with options to rent out SUVs, hatchbacks and sedans for one day to one month.

The services can be booked online through the Amazon Home Services page and are available to customers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah.

Amazon said that customers who book can have the vehicles delivered directly to the selected address as early as three hours from the time of booking. No security deposit is required, and rates start from as low as 44 dirhams ($12) per day.

The tech giant launched its marketplace, Amazon Home Services last year to enable customers to book online some services on demand, such as home cleaning and improvement, AC cleaning, mobile repair, pet grooming, Car washing and furniture assembly, as well as home disinfection, pest control and moving services.

“We launched Amazon Home Services last year to give customers in the UAE a simple way to book services from locally-based service providers with the same ease as purchasing products from Amazon.ae,” said Amine Mamlouk, Amazon Middle East and North Africa executive.

The global car rental market is expected to generate $214.04 billion by 2027, driven by increased on-demand transportation services and reduced inclination toward car ownership among the millennial population, according to Allied Market Research.

The UAE has one of the largest car rental markets in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. Across the region, the market is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15.7 percent between 2020 and 2025, according to Mordor Intelligence.
