Riffa, Bahrain: The American University of Bahrain (AUBH), has launched ‘President for a Day’ as part of its shadowing program, aimed at giving students a real-life glimpse into various careers, beginning with its very own Founding President, Dr. Susan E. Saxton. The first participant, Ms. Mariam Hussein, President of AUBH’s Student Council, experienced Dr. Saxton’s daily responsibilities first-hand, as she participated in senior stakeholder meetings,  and took part in operational and strategic discussions. The shadowing program was created with AUBH’s mission at its heart, to provide its students with opportunities to realize their professional and personal goals, through a rigorous and engaging student-centric environment, aiming to create career-oriented and employment-ready graduates, equipped with the skills and knowledge required to advance the economies and societies in which they operate.

The program was spearheaded by Dr. Susan E. Saxton, who commented: “This initiative was launched to present AUBH Students with the opportunity to be exposed to learning opportunities beyond the classroom. We want their experience at AUBH to be enriching at every level, from academia, to an active student life to engagement with the professional world. Shadowing me for the day is just the start; I look forward to seeing our students go out into tech start-ups, large corporations and government organizations, pursuing their passions, in a sector which is relevant to them.”

Ms. Hussein commented on her experience as “President for the Day” : “I have learned a lot about how the university works, what the President does on a daily basis, how important her role is, how people communicate with each other and how decisions are made.”

AUBH offers programs in Colleges of Business and Management, Engineering, and Architecture and Design. AUBH’s purpose-built campus in Riffa is a second home to a new caliber of student, nurtured and mentored by hand-picked faculty with the best international and local expertise. As the first American-style University in Bahrain, AUBH takes a unique approach to learning, going beyond imparting knowledge to giving students access to real world scenarios and practical case-based learning. Complete with the latest in learning technology, Library, labs, and a Sports Center, the Campus is alive with the buzz of academic and extra-curricular life, amongst a multi-cultural student body.
