Abu Dhabi:  UAE Banks Federation (UBF), in collaboration with Central Bank of The UAE, announced today that it played a significant advisory role in the innovation and enhancement of UAE Pass, the newly unveiled mobile application which acts as a digital identity and digital signature solution for residents and visitors in the UAE.

The joint initative between Smart Dubai, Abu Dhabi Digital Authority and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), is one of the latest tools that have been launched in the public sector in an effort to drive the digitalization of services across the UAE. Over 50 banks in the UAE are preparing for the implementation of UAE Pass, with some ready to integrate the new authentication system as soon as next month.

First presented to the public at GITEX in 2018, the platform provides easy digital access to various government and non-government services and will act as a single trusted identity solution for citizens and visitors in the UAE. More specifically, UAE Pass will allow users the ability to conduct financial transactions, upload documents, validate documents (using digital signatures or a digital fingerprint authentication system), and will provide a digital vault to share data between users – without using their Emirates IDs.

H.E Mubarak Rashed Al Mansoori, Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE, stated: “Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) is keen to support the UAE Pass initiative that will lay the foundation for more digital services in the future, as well as support the digital transformation that is already underway across several sectors in the UAE. CBUAE’s objective is to cater to the needs of banking consumers and ensure they are adequately served and protected. With that being said, CBUAE, in close cooperation with the UBF, has allowed banks to use the platform to conduct their ‘Know Your Customer’ verifications digitally – this is just one example of the ways we can benefit from the power and technology of the UAE Pass. This initiative that was launched by the UAE Prime Minister’s Office and led by the Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority and Smart Dubai, is a testament to the UAE Governments’ commitment towards innovation, digital transformation and smart technology.”

H.E. AbdulAziz Al Ghurair, Chairman of UAE Banks Federation, said: “We have recently witnessed a tremendous extent of change in digital transformation initiatives and the UAE Pass is a fantastic example of how the boundaries of innovation are constantly being pushed to enhance services and user experiences across the UAE. The application will help accelerate access to government and non-government services through an innovative platform that is paperless, safe and makes procedures faster and more convenient than before. As the leading industry association for the UAE banking sector, we carefully consulted our 52-member banks to help drive the adoption and integration of the platform, whilst maintaining outstanding security procedures and a simple, seamless user experience.”
