Dubai, UAE: As part of an advanced step towards unifying and directing international efforts to promote the maritime sector, Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) has revealed that it will discuss the topic, ‘Globalisation and Consolidation: Two Irreversible Trends for the Industry,’ during the third session scheduled on the sidelines of Dubai Maritime Agenda 2019, one of the prominent events of ‘UAE Maritime Week 2019,’ which is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.

The agenda of the third session, which is scheduled on September 22, 2019, will feature extensive discussions on ways on how to strengthen constructive cooperation among maritime industry leaders in the future. Talks will also include key focus on shaping the next phase of globalization of shipping and logistics--identifying future opportunities within the shipping sector for leading companies and family businesses owners, in particular.

The third session is set to be attended by an elite group of government figures, pioneers and maritime experts who are looking to explore the readiness and attractiveness of shipping for investment, in light of the forecast that the global shipping segment will witness a remarkable growth by 2050, according to the International Transport Forum (ITF).

Hosting international discussions on shipping in Dubai comes in conjunction with the efforts of DMCA to mainstream the emirate's leading experience as one of the top five global leaders in the International Shipping Centre Development Index (ISCD), supported by an advanced legislative and infrastructure base and a strategic location between East and West, in addition to first class maritime and logistics services.

The third session is seen as a unique undertaking as it places strong focus on important topics, raising critical questions like “Is shipping a good industry for investment?” The aim of the session is to find effective solutions for emerging challenges while exploring the possibility of accelerating the pace of consolidation of international efforts in the future and their impact across vital economic sectors.

Other issues to be tackled at the session include the next phase in the globalization of shipping and logistics; the orientation of commercial companies towards the ownership of shipping assets; and the prospect of shipping between large public companies and family-owned private companies.

Amer Ali, Executive Director, DMCA, said, “The investment attractiveness of the shipping industry, which is expected to achieve quantum leaps over the next three decades, is growing. This development has led to building key bridges with international players to lay the foundations for the expected growth in the future of the global maritime sector. We are responsible for spreading the lessons of Dubai's march towards excellence, which has positioned itself as one of the world's leading shipping centers and supported by its leading position among the best maritime centers in the world for 2019. Thanks to the continued support of the wise leadership to upgrade the competitive capabilities of the local maritime assembly and develop the maritime and logistic capabilities, in addition to creating an environment conducive to trade, business, investment and free zones that provide integrated services comparable to the best in the world. We look forward to coming up with important recommendations that reflect positively on the global maritime landscape, and the shipping sector in particular, with the eye on sharing best practices and the most successful experiences that pave the way for us to further consolidate the presence of Dubai and the UAE as a driving force for the growth of the transport, trade, shipping and logistics sectors.”

The Dubai Maritime Agenda 2019 stands out as one of the key events scheduled during the UAE Maritime Week 2019, which will take place from 22 to 26 September 2019. The focus now is being drawn to the upcoming UAE Maritime Week, with strong interest from global maritime industry leaders as it is expected to serve as a unified platform to explore the future of the maritime industry from the perspective of innovation, knowledge and intelligent transformation, in line with the rapid transitions of the 21st century. The focus of the event will be on exploring the growth prospects of maritime trade through a series of high-level events that will enhance channels of exchange of international best practices and the most successful pilot experiences, led by Dubai's experience in becoming a major maritime portal for global trade.
