Special Guests Include Saudi Oil Minister & OPEC Secretary General

Abu Dhabi, UAE (March 28th, 2017)

The third edition of the Petroleum Media Forum will be held Under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates, and will take place on April 19th & 20th at the Abu Dhabi Rosewood Hotel. The featured speakers will include the energy ministers of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait, alongside 250 members of the media and regional energy industry.

The Arabian Gulf’s national energy sector is keen to bolster its dialogue with local and international journalists to ensure greater accuracy and depth in the coverage of the region’s primary industry, the UAE’s Minister of Energy HE Suhail Al-Mazrouei said after launching the programme agenda for the 3rd GCC Petroleum Media Forum.

“We want to increase transparency and give information on the market that is based on knowledge and based on a diverse mix of opinions,” said H.E. Al-Mazrouei, who will host this biennial knowledge exchange forum between the energy industry and the media that covers them. The UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait would like to see the regional energy companies and their media counterparts keep up to speed with the latest developments and trends impacting the oil and gas industry, Al-Mazrouei said.

The objective of the GCC Petroleum Media Forum is to elevate the public’s perception of the oil and gas industry; to enhance the knowledge competence of the communications’ professionals tasked with managing the industry’s messaging; and to establish better pathways for dialogue between the media and their industry subjects. A series of seminars, workshops and training sessions (see programme attached) will be produced at the Forum to help achieve the goals of the conference.

His Excellency Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of Saudi Aramco, will give the Forum’s keynote International Lecture on the future plans for the OPEC Vienna Agreement to curtail oil supplies through the first half of 2017. H.E. Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, the OPEC Secretary General, and his counterpart from the International Energy Forum, Dr. Xiansheng Sun, will open the conference on April 19th.

Under the theme, “Gulf Petroleum Media and Future Energy Trends”, the third edition of the GCC Forum, which was last held in Riyadh in 2015, will seek to put forward a white paper report with recommendations on how best to ensure the journalists reporting on the regional energy sector have all the access and knowledge required to deliver the most accurate coverage of a rapidly evolving landscape.

ADNOC, Saudi Aramco, Mubadala Petroleum, ENOC and BP are amongst the oil companies supporting the Forum.
