Oman Chlorine SAOG has announced that is Qatar-based sister company Gulf Chlorine WLL has signed an agreement for the establishment of a calcium chloride plant under the name of United Chemicals WLL in Mesaieed Industrial City in Qatar.

Total investment in the United Chemicals plant is around RO 5.3 million ($13.7 million), the Muscat registered listed firm said in a filing to the Capital Market Authority.

Gulf Chlorine WLL, which is 51 per cent owned by Oman Chlorine SAOG, has signed the articles of incorporation along with KLJ Organics Qatar WLL for the establishment of the new plant. The new joint venture shareholding will be 50 per cent each.

The new proposed plant will produce 60,000 tonnes per year of Calcium Chloride in addition to market the Hydrochloric Acid produced locally by the shareholders.

Gulf Chlorine WLL was set up to develop a 70 tonnes-per-day capacity chlorine facility at Mesaieed Industrial City in Qatar. Sister firm Oman Chlorine’s state-of-the-art Chlor alkali plant is the largest privately owned chemical plant in the Sultanate. The modern plant, completely automated and computer controlled, is built on a 22,000 sq metre plot at the Sohar Industrial Estate. The plant utilises the most advanced membrane cell technology.
