Muscat: There has been good progress in restarting the water desalination plant in Sohar, the Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) has reported.

The PAEW said in its third statement on the issue that the company which owns the plant has begun producing water and pumping it to the main tanks.

The statement also pointed out that water is being pumped at a rate of about 3,000 cubic metres per hour, equivalent to about half the production capacity of the plant.

The company is working on restarting pumping water  to Liwa, Saham and Shinas.

It will  then pump water to Suwaiq and Sohar.

The PAEW has called on citizens and residents to rationalise water usage and help tide over this stage, urging them.

It also said information on areas affected by water shortage can be had by calling number 1442.
