SHARJAH- The University of Sharjah recorded a new accomplishment ranking first among UAE universities in the field of Applied Physics and Astronomy, according to the Times Higher Education, THE, World University Rankings.

The University’s Chancellor Prof. Hamid M.K. Al-Naimiy made the announcement, attributing the results to the policies set by the University’s President, H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. He explained that the classification was as a result of the University’s Department of Applied Physics and Astronomy’s work in the field, particularly in the ranking’s research criteria, as well as the number of citations credited to the university by international sources.

This, Al-Naimiy noted, is an indicator of the quality of research published at the University of Sharjah.

According to the 2020 THE rankings, the University of Sharjah scored ‘7.0’ in the research category related the physical sciences, compared to a score of ‘6.3’ for the previous year. The University also managed to improve its overall score in the citations category from ‘41.9’ to ‘55.6’. The University also scored highly in the international outlook category for physical sciences, scoring ‘96.2’, highlighting the department’s local, regional and international reputation for quality research and education in the physics and astronomy arena.
