Bahrain’s overall workforce exceeded 157,000 in the second quarter last year – with 65.2 per cent of them employed in the private sector.

The authorities also succeeded in maintaining the rate of unemployment at around 4pc despite economic challenges.

According to a report published in the Bahrain News Agency, 16,677 Bahrainis were employed by October last year.

A batch of 7,907 jobseekers was also employed in the private sector over the same period with 5,103 being university graduates.

The ministry surveyed 75 training establishments – nine vocational centres, 66 administrative and business centres and institutes.

It hosted three career expos and opened three employment and training centres in 2017.

Labour safety monitors conducted 5,297 inspection visits over the first 10 months of 2017, inspected 4,842 firms employing 122,910 workers – of whom 23,583 are Bahraini nationals.

Meanwhile, Bahraini jobseekers benefiting from the Insurance against Unemployment Programme topped 11,089 registered recipients by end of December. Up to 58,000 recipients benefited from the scheme from 2007 up to 2017.
