OPEC member Kuwait has awarded a maintenance contract to a US construction company at its Al-Zour oil refinery with a value of about Kuwaiti dinar 50.86 million ($168 million), a local newspaper said on Tuesday.

The government-owned Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC) has awarded the deal to O'Connor Engineering and Construction Company following competition by several bidders, the Arabic language daily Al-Rai said.

It quoted KIPIC sources as saying the selection of the US firm was approved by Kuwait's Central Agency for Public Tenders.

The contract covers power and instrument maintenance at Al-Zour in South Kuwait, one of the world's largest oil refineries with an output capacity of 615,000 bpd.
