Dubai, UAE: PayPal and bitcoin attract the greatest interest from UAE residents searching for payment options according to SEMrush, the award winning all-in-one digital marketing suite.

Data revealed by the company noted that PayPal receives an average monthly online search of more than 41,000, followed by bitcoin at around 25,000 per month.

Utilising search engine back-data from the last four years, SEMrush also identified American Express as the most popular credit card group with 4,558 average monthly searches in the UAE, while Visa and MasterCard received 3,444 and 3,156 respectively, coming in close second and third place.

Google Pay has received the fastest growing search for payment systems with a 3,935 per cent growth comparing 2015 with 2019 search levels in the UAE. The increase in Google Pay searches was followed by Amazon Pay at 1,476 per cent growth, Apple Pay at 377 per cent, Bitcoin 335 per cent, Ethereum 263 per cent and TransferWise at 258per cent in terms of 2019 versus 2015 search levels in the Emirates.

“Online search is an indicator of interest and awareness. When marketers use digital tools to analyse the increase or decrease in online search for particular brands or products it can indicate the level of strength of branding or re-branding that is taking place in any market location on a country or city level”, commented Adam Zeidan, Corporate Communications Manager at SEMrush for MENA region.

The UAE is hailed as the GCC region’s fastest growing eCommerce market and valued at US$ 16 billion annually.
