Dubai: Careers UAE, the leading recruitment and training exhibition for UAE nationals, will support the country’s strategic Emiratisation goals by empowering the next generation of multi-industry leaders when the show returns for its 19th edition at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from 19-21 March 2019.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the build-up to Careers UAE 2019 follows Sheikh Mohammed marking 50 years of national service by unveiling an eight-principle plan and a 50-year charter to ensure the country’s prosperity.

Emirati youth feature prominently in Sheikh Mohammed’s visionary roadmap, with a promise to “invest and create valuable assets” for future generations and a commitment to continue “nurturing the brightest minds to generate innovative ideas.” Additionally, Sheikh Mohammed launched several strategies at a UAE Cabinet meeting last month to increase Emiratisation by 200 per cent within a year, including the National Human Resources Development Fund.

Careers UAE 2019 will assist that drive by featuring more than 100 public and private sector exhibitors offering thousands of diverse professional roles to a projected visitor pool of over 18,000 job seekers, predominantly students fresh out of high school, college graduates and those looking at switching career paths.

Confirmed participants include UAE-based entities such as Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, Emirates Group, Etihad Airways, Etisalat, du, Al Rostamani Group, Dubai Government Human Resources Department, and more than 30 additional Government departments.

Private sector in focus

With Emiratisation in the private sector remaining a key focus area for the UAE Government, as evidenced by Emiratisation Working Group unveiling its The Citizen Redistribution Policy at the end of 2018, Careers UAE will welcome private sector entities including Jumeirah International LLC, Majid Al Futtaim, New York University Abu Dhabi and DP World, amongst others, this year.

In total, private and public sector organisations at the show will stem from a range of industries including oil and gas, banking, insurance, hospitality, aviation services including air navigation, health, commodities, education, telecommunications and more.

“In-line with the progressive Emiratisation policies of the UAE Government, the country requires top Emirati talent to drive its ambitions for a competitive knowledge-based economy,” said Asma Al Sharif, Show Director – Careers UAE 2019. “With a two-decade heritage of providing professional advancement opportunities for Emiratis, Careers UAE will provide potential candidates with a gamut of career advancement opportunities in a multitude of Government departments, as well as a cross-section of private sector industries spanning finance, security, healthcare and tourism, to logistics, science, aviation and telecommunications.”

Equal opportunities

With UAE Government statistics showing women currently comprise 66 per cent of the public sector workforce in the country, 30 per cent of whom are in leadership roles, Careers UAE 2019 will highlight female empowerment across all employment sectors through a partnership with Mums@Work, an online job search platform with a goal to connect mums with flexible work. During the show Mums@Work will host a series of female-focused workshop series with the aim of further attracting strong independent Emirati career-oriented women to the show

“It is important that we continue providing career advancement avenues for young women to gain the experience and skills that will enable them to take on senior leadership roles in the future,” added Al Sharif.

“While it is imperative to praise the country’s leadership for its long-term goals – such as doubling female representation in the Federal National Council, the parliamentary body of the UAE, or encouraging more female participation in the country’s judicial system – we must continue providing the right pathways for women entering the wider workforce. Only then will we see more qualified businesswomen and civil servants reaching leadership positions.

According to Mariam Al Ali, Head of Emiratisation and Government Relations at Mashreq, Emirati women are more open to professional challenges and successfully transitioning into new roles in industries such as aviation, oil and gas and banking.

“With more Emirati women entering the workplace and gaining positions of power, gender barriers are continuously being broken down across the UAE,” said Al Ali. “The UAE as a country is setting a precedent in gender balance and empowerment in the workplace and Emirati women occupy key decision-making positions, which is a testament to their hard work and abilities.”

Technology adoption

New technology-driven partnerships will enhance visitor experience at Careers UAE 2019. The addition of Sundus Technology enables candidates to seamlessly connect with exhibitors, with on-stand tablets serving as way-finders to simplify and map out an exhibition journey. Visitors will also be able to plug in their CVs through the BOT technology ensuring they don’t go unnoticed. Testello, a cutting-edge assessment tool tailored for the MEA region, will enable participating companies to set on-site and pre-show tests for candidates to streamline the hiring process and provide better access to the right applicants.

Other value-added features at the show include the OlivTalent Hunt 2019 in partnership with Oliv, an internship and graduate jobs portal, where visitors can get face-to-face time and meet hiring managers from major exhibitors in a speed interview format.

Careers UAE 2019 is exclusively for UAE nationals and HR practitioners. The fair is open from 10am to 6pm from 19-21 March. For more information, please visit www.careersuae.ae.
