Kuwait (28 December, 2015)

KDD, a leading manufacturer of food and beverage products in the GCC region, and Tetra Pak®, the world leader in food processing and packaging solutions, announced the re-launch of products with a cutting-edge environmental profile for juice products. A few product lines in KDD's existing high quality and reputable juice range, will be the first in Arabia Area (Gulf and Levant regions) to be packed in Tetra Pak® cartons carrying the label of the Forest Stewardship Council™, an independent, non-governmental, not for profit organization which promotes the responsible management of the world's forests.

To receive FSC™ certification, the wood fibres used in the package must be traceable all the way through the supply chain back to the forest and that the paperboard used in the package must come well-managed forests and other controlled sources.

"We drive environmental excellence by taking a value chain approach, focusing on developing sustainable products, reducing our environmental footprint and increasing recycling. With the FSC labels, consumers can rest assure that the packaging has been sourced, with emphasis on the preservation of forests as a natural resource. Tetra Pak® will work diligently in order to sustain and further develop the FSC certified products around the world". Said Lena Feichtenschlager, Tetra Pak® Marketing Manager Arabia Area.

"KDD's carton packaging displaying the FSC will mark the accomplishment of long-standing goal of providing consumers with products with the highest quality, using state-of-the-art production facilities while also caring for the environment and the broader well-being of the people". Mentioned Walid Mourad, Marketing Manager from KDD.

Adding, "We are thrilled to announce the delivery of KDD's Dairy and Juice products in Tetra Pak cartons carrying the FSC for the first time in Arabia Area (Gulf and Levant regions).  We know a sustainable approach to business is of critical value, and with this partnership with the FSC and their certification, we show our commitment to a more sustainable pattern in the way we conduct our business and lead our lives."

Tetra Pak® launched the first FSC-labelled carton package in 2007. The following year, 2008, it sold around 100 million FSC-labelled packages worldwide, and in 2014 it reached more than 4.4 billion (i.e. 18% of the packages we sell globally carries the FSC label). A significant constraint to making FSC-labelled packages available everywhere is the limited supply of FSC certified wood, with only 15% of the world's forests certified today. Tetra Pak® continues to work with different stakeholders to support increased FSC certification of forests, with the ultimate aim of producing all of its cartons using wood fibre from responsibly managed forests with FSC certification.

Tetra Pak's® policy is to promote good health among consumers globally, by providing nutritious liquid foods that are safe, hygienic and of the highest quality.  The company has been engaged in various community services and environmental activities as part of its commitment to promoting good corporate citizenship through concrete actions.
