DUBAI - Syria's state grain buyer, the General Authority for Cereal Processing and Trade (Hoboob), has cancelled a deal to buy 1 million tonnes of Russian wheat from little-known firm Zernomir, a government source close to the matter said on Wednesday.

"The deal was cancelled due to difficulties in banking operations and execution," the source said.

The deal was struck in October in a massive purchase tender aimed at securing supplies to feed government-held territories but was never implemented.
