21 Dubai government representatives attend the event

UAE - The General Secretariat of the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) hosted a workshop titled ‘The Legislative Laboratory’ attended by representatives from the Dubai Government. The event was in line with the General Secretariat’s efforts to enhance government integration and support the development of a consolidated legislative system according to the emirate’s sustainable development policies.

The workshop was held under the supervision of Mr. Omar Khalifa Al Suwaidi, Acting Assistant Secretary General and Director of the SLC’s Strategy and Organisational Excellence Office, along with General Secretariat officials. During the event, the attendees discussed challenges and opportunities in a wide range of topics such as legislation, legislative audit, and legal opinion and advice.

The participants agreed to strengthen cooperation and joint coordination to transform ideas and visions into reality through innovative initiatives and future actions, as well as to improve legislative and government systems according to the highest standards of efficiency, excellence, and leadership.

H.E. Ahmed Bin Meshar, SLC Secretary General, stated that the workshop served as an ideal platform to develop new visions in light of the prevailing challenges and emerging opportunities. It was organized in line with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to make the government an ‘authority to serve people rather than an authority governing them.’

He reaffirmed the commitment of the SLC General Secretariat to enhance the SLC’s collaborative work with Dubai government entities to develop Dubai legislative processes and build a pioneering legislative body.

He added: “We look forward to implementing the proposals and recommendations put forward by the attendees. We aim to transform their ideas into effective measures that will improve the quality and efficiency of legislation and establish a legal system that is in line with the aspirations of our wise leadership to catapult Dubai into the ranks of the world's most advanced nations by 2021.”

For his part, Mr. Omar Al Suwaidi said: "As part of the efforts of the Strategy and Organisational Excellence Office, we were able to explore the visions of Dubai government entities as well as identify challenges and opportunities related to the legislative work in Dubai. We are happy with the participants’ strong response to the workshop during which they agreed to jointly work together to implement their plans. The workshop was in line with our efforts to ensure proper implementation of legislation, to strengthen the legal system, and to build a proactive and creative government that meets the needs of the future, and helps achieve the goals and objectives of Dubai Plan 2021.”
