Muscat: As part of its commitment to support the nation’s drive for providing career opportunities for Omani youth, Sohar International recently participated at 21st edition of the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) Career and Training Fair 2020. The event is taking place at the Grand Hall of Sultan Qaboos University’s Cultural Center from the 2nd to 4th of March 2020.

The three-day exhibition organized by the SQU Center for Career Guidance was held under the patronage of H.E. Sultan bin Salim Al Habsi, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors of Central Bank of Oman (CBO). The fair aimed to provide jobs and training opportunities for SQU students and graduates in order to enhance their abilities, develop their skills, and prepare them for the labor market.

Elucidating on the Bank’s role in the initiatives, Mr Abdulali Al Lawati, Sr. AGM and Acting Head of Human Resource and Corporate Support at Sohar International said, “Sohar International has always been committed to providing opportunities for the Omani youth and our support and participation in such initiatives is a testament to that. With over 90 percent Omanization, Sohar International serves as one of the leading role-models for successful and sustainable local talent development and In-Country Value (ICV) practices.”

The stand setup by Sohar International attracted a large number of students and young job seekers on the first days of the fair; and gave Sohar International employees the opportunity to interact and network with Omani students from various local and international universities and colleges. The Sohar International team focused on sharing their experiences and knowledge with students while helping create awareness about the different career and training opportunities at Sohar International.

Partnerships with the educational institutions to engage with local talent has been a strong focus area for the Bank and is in line with its promise towards playing an active role in Oman’s overall socio-economic development. This commitment is in the direction of development of local talent which is also deeply rooted in the organization’s purpose of helping people ‘win’. In support of this commitment, the bank had launched its own internship programme – Tomohi and sponsored many youth-related initiatives such as awarding high performing students in Injaz Innovation Camp and Jalsat Mulhimoon among others.
