Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The Sharjah Government pavilion at GITEX Technology Week 2018 witnessed increased activity as the emirate’s participating entities continued to reveal their latest technology projects.

Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Director General of the Department of e-Government - Sharjah (DeG), said: “Our government entities continue to shine on day 4 of GITEX Technology Week through unveiling several new advanced technology solutions, which drives the emirate’s development across all fields, in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the UAE Federal Supreme Council, and Ruler of Sharjah.

“We are very pleased with the strides made this far, which indicate the progress we have made in achieving digital transformation across all government entities, and in providing residents and visitors with unique services that adds to their convenience. These developments will help us reach our goal of consolidating Sharjah’s position on the list of the best investments and tourists’ destination in the region and the world.”

Day 4 Highlights

On the fourth day of the exhibition, which is held until Thursday, 18 October, the DeG’s Director-General was presented with a commemorative plaque by HE Salha Obeid Ghabesh, Director of the Cultural and Media Office at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, in recognition of the DeG’s cooperation in launching the Marami Magazine application, which aims to strengthen awareness of culture and knowledge across the society.

Sharjah Government departments competed to unveil their latest digital services for GITEX Technology Week visitors.  Sharjah City Municipality launched "Star Rating", an application that classifies contractors and consultants within specific criteria. The Municipality also launched a new identity for its website, as well as an awareness show on the "Sapeq" digital transformation programme in the Sharjah City Municipality.

Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services signed an agreement with Al-Natiq Technology Company for increased collaboration in the development of supporting technology services at the Assistive Technology Center of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services. This aims to build positive collaboration with Al-Natiq Technology Company, which supports technologies that contribute to supporting visually disadvantaged people.

Government of Sharjah Social Services Department launched "Smart Rooms" project, an application that allows the elderly to control room lighting, curtains, air conditioning and the emergency button. The Department also launched ‘Ruya’ project, which connects children in correctional and penal institution with their parents using smart and easy-to-use devices. The "Child Help Line" project, a high-level free line system, was also unveiled. The application receives, follows and resolves child-related reports immediately, from the call centre to the field response team.

The Sharjah Health Authority launched its own insurance app that has many easy-to-use features to help users locate hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and diagnostic centers close to them or any other locations. Thousands of users will benefit from this technology in Sharjah. The new application provides various features such as emergency numbers, helpdesk, links to social networking pages, health tips, notifications, and much more.

The Sharjah Government Pavilion is expected to witness the launch of more new services and applications by the various government departments and entities involved.
