RIYADH - The Shoura Council on Monday approved a draft law to combat terrorism and terror funding.

The Council session, chaired by Deputy President Muhammad Al-Jafri, took the decision after listening to a briefing from its security affairs committee.

Yahya Al-Samaan, assistant president of the Council, said the Council also approved the amendments and additions to the law for combating money laundering.

In another decision, the Council urged the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture to address the issue of unbalanced distribution of water and sewage services across the Kingdom. It called on the ministry to install water rationalization devices at the time of giving water connections and expand installation of smart water meters throughout the Kingdom.

The Council on Sunday approved the draft law for the rights of the elderly people.

According to the law, it is not allowed to admit the elderly people in shelter homes without their willingness or the consent of their family or on the basis of a court verdict.

Moreover, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development has to provide free legal assistance to them. They will also be exempted from charges for public utility services. The provisions also include penalties against those who harm the elderly people.
