Abu Dhabi: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will have a large presence at the 24th World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi after signing a major contract with the Organizing Committee today.

More than 20 organizations from the energy sector in Saudi Arabia are set to showcase their services during the World Energy Congress, highlighting the strength of the country’s energy sector and its efforts to move towards a more sustainable industry model.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the 24th World Energy Congress will offer a unique platform for global energy leaders to explore new energy futures, critical innovation areas and new strategies.

Held between 9-12 September at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the 24th World Energy Congress will see a range of high-profile speakers from Saudi Arabia share their expertise with delegates.

A number of industry leaders from Saudi Arabia will speak at the Congress including , H.H. Abdul-Aziz bin Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud, State Minister for Energy Affairs, H.E. Khalid A. Al-Falih  Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, and H.E. Amin Bin Hassan Nasser, President and CEO, Saudi Aramco, Dr. Amin Bin Mohammed Al-Shibani, General Director, Saudi National Renewable Energy Programme, Mohammad A. Abunayyan, Chairman, ACWA Power International, Dr. Khalid bin Saleh Al-Sultan, President, King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy and Adam Edward Sieminski, President, King Abdullah Petroleum Studies & Research Center (KAPSARC).

The KSA Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources intend to have a significant presence at the Congress, along with KSA companies Saudi Aramco, SABIC, Saudi Electricity, ACWA Power, King Abdullah Petroleum Studies & Research Center (KAPSARC), SAGIA, King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology, King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, King Fahd University for Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Energy Efficiency Center (SEEC), Sadara Chemical, Saudi Energy, DUSSUR, Advanced Electronics Company and TARSHID National Energy Services Company.

His Excellency Dr. Matar Al Neyadi, Undersecretary at the UAE Ministry of Energy and Industry and Chairman of the UAE Organizing Committee and His Excellency Dr. Yasir Al Turki, Advisor to the Deputy Minister for Electricity Affairs at the KSA Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources and Secretary of the Saudi Arabia National Committee of the World Energy Council signed the contract in Abu Dhabi recently to bring a Saudi national pavilion to the exhibition running alongside the Congress.

As part of the contract Saudi Arabia will host a 1,400 square meter pavilion - the largest country pavilion at the 24th World Energy Congress 2019. The country has recently outlined ambitious plans to boost its economy and the energy sector is central to its success. The country has set a target of generating 9.5 Gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030.

Speaking at the event, Dr Matar Al Neyadi, said: “Both the UAE and Saudi Arabia are leading the way in this region with the development of a sustainable energy sector. The World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi provides an excellent platform to showcase our ambitious plans for the future with the rest of the world.

“We are delighted to have such a significant delegation coming from Saudi Arabia to the Congress. It not only shows the importance of this industry to the region, but also the strength and collaboration between our two countries.”

Dr. Yasir Al Turki added that “Saudi Arabia is excited to be part of this prestigious Congress with a strong representation from the various stakeholders from the energy sector.

“Energy constitutes a major building block of Saudi Arabia’s economic reform agenda that is outlined in the government’s Vision 2030 and the congress would provide the perfect platform to showcase the latest technologies and developments.”

The triennial Congress is the World Energy Council’s global flagship event and is expected to be attended by high-profile figures including heads of states, government ministers and business leaders from around the world.
