Saudi Customs announced on Sunday 4th of March 2019, the launching of the pilot version of the Authorized  Economic Operators’  (AEO) “Fast Track” at Al-Bathaa Customs. During the trial period, the track will be allocated solely to a pair of chosen authorized companies where the total number of companies registered under the AEO Program will benefit from the “Fast Track”  when officially started.

The activation of the “Fast Track” is the outcome of signing the Mutual Recognition Memorandum between KSA and UAE Customs Authorities, as announced by Saudi Customs. This memorandum was a part of the workplan framework signed at the end of the year 2017 between the two parties. The workplan entailed the assessment procedures, the signing of Mutual Recognition Agreement, and the exchange of information. Moreover, it aimed at providing firms with the features and privileges of the AEO program.

The “Fast Track” will facilitate and improve the smooth flow and mobility at Al-Bathaa Customs, mitigate the clearance time of goods and expedite the duration of the customs procedures. The “Fast Track” feature is considered one among many other features provided by the Saudi Customs to the AEOs. These benefits give the companies, registered in the AEO program, a customs procedure priority such as the manual handheld inspection procedures, and the feature of early consignment release before the payment of due charges in which the amount due is covered by bank guarantees. Moreover,  the AEO program allows the entire registered members to access all other benefits and features provided by similar programs in other countries through mutual recognition. Furthermore, and in order to overcome all impediments and constraints that might hinder the work of authorized registered companies, the Saudi Customs allocated an AEO account manager to help in solving their problems.

Saudi Customs explained that the main objective of the AEO program is to strengthen and consolidate the partnership principle between the Saudi Customs and its partners in both the public and private sector, as well as to increase the effective cooperation between them. This collaboration will lessen the lead-time of clearing procedures, i.e. alleviate the release period of cleared goods, and facilitate trade between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the world. Consequently, this will be reflected as an increase in the national economic growth and empower the kingdom to become an global logistics platform.
