Muscat: In order to meet high demand for electricity supply and to enhance the performance of the electricity network, Mazoon Electricity Company, has invested almost OMR22 million in the second quarter of 2019.

The investment was to energise and upgraded a number of substations within its operation areas and constructing and upgrading nine substations with a total capacity of (352MVA).

The new substations are located in different areas under the company's operations coverage. The company energised Al Kasfa substation (2x20MVA) in Wilayat Al Rustaq, Izki substation (3x20MVA) in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, Al Magsher substation (6x2 MVA) in South Al Batinah Governorate, Jalan Bani Bu Hassan substation (3x20MVA) in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

In addition, number of other substations have been upgraded, such as Al Bedaya in Wilayat Al Suwaiq substation (from 2x20 MVA to 3x20 MVA), Qalat Al Awamer substation in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate (from 6x2 MVA to 2x20 MVA), Wadi Bani Ghafir substation in South Al Batinah Governorate (from 6x2 MVA to 2x20 MVA) and finally, Timsa substation in Nizwa (from 6x2 MVA to 2x20 MVA).

The new substations project comes as part of the continuous development and enhancement of the distribution network in these areas, which will help in sharing the loads between the existing and the new substations. It will also help in response to the increasing demand for energy in these areas. More than 20,000 new electricity accounts have been connected for customers from April to June 2019.

The new stations play significant role in enhancing the efficiency of the electricity network and reduce contingency interruptions in service.
