Muscat: Qatar Airways has opened a new office in Muscat and celebrated its opening by hosting a gala dinner on Monday, March 25 at the Kempinski Hotel.

The event was attended by His Excellency Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman, Ali Bin Fahad Al Hajri, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Sultanate of Oman, Akbar Al Baker, Group Chief Executive of Qatar Airways as well as many other prominent government representatives and business leaders.

Qatar Airways also hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday to officially kickoff operations at the new office. The ceremony was attended by Ali Bin Fahad Al Hajri, Sheikh Aimen Ahmed Sultan Al Hosni, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Airports, Akbar Al Baker, and other Omani government officials and trade partners.

Speaking at the gala, Al Baker said: “We are here to celebrate the longstanding and important relationship Qatar Airways shares with the Sultanate of Oman. Oman has always been a key market for us, with 70 direct flights to three destinations in Oman, and will continue to be so in the future. Tonight, we reaffirm our commitment to the Omani market, as we celebrate the opening of our beautiful new office in Muscat. We could not be more proud to be here this evening with our Omani partners to mark this occasion.”

The National Carrier of Qatar has been operating in Oman since 2000, when it first began direct services to the Omani capital, Muscat. In 2013, Salalah was added to the airline’s expanding network as the second destination, followed by Sohar in 2017.

A multiple award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was named ‘World’s Best Business Class’ at the 2018 World Airline Awards which is managed by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax. It was also named ‘Best Business Class Seat’, ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’, and ‘World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge’.

Qatar Airways connects passengers from Oman to more than 160 destinations across six continents via the award-winning Hamad International Airport in Doha. The carrier will launch a host of exciting new destinations in 2019, including Lisbon, Portugal; Malta; Rabat, Morocco; Davao, Philippines; Langkawi, Malaysia; Izmir, Turkey; and Mogadishu, Somalia.
