Bahrain yesterday became the first banking hub in the region to launch a biometric payment system.

It was inaugurated by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

The Eazy financial network enables payments through fingerprints, without using plastic cards or mobile phones.

Bahrain’s provision of necessary banking infrastructure has entitled it to be a permanent leader in financial technology in the region, the Premier said.

He said the challenge is to maintain the kingdom’s distinction in light of the fierce competition in the financial and business world by continuously seeking innovation.

The Prime Minister made the statements while receiving, at Gudaibiya Palace, Central Bank of Bahrain governor Rasheed Al Maraj, financial and banking leaders as well as officials.

He said the pioneering network launched by Eazy Financial Services will open new horizons for the banking industry in the kingdom.

He wished success to everyone involved with the network.
