Saudis to be trained in uranium mining

The first batch of Saudi trainees to Jordan includes 13 specialists

Riyadh — King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy announced on Sunday the launch of national cadre development program in uranium mining.

The one-year Uranium Mining Project in cooperation with the Jordanian Atomic Energy Commission and Jordanian Uranium Mining Company (JUMCO) will train Saudis in the exploration of uranium ore, uranium oxide development and feasibility study.

The first batch of Saudi trainees to Jordan includes 13 specialists.

The Uranium Mining Project is one of the components of the National Atomic Energy Project in Saudi Arabia to provide the requirements for sustainable national development envisaged in the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030.

President of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy Dr. Khalid Al-Sultan stressed on the importance of exchange of expertise and experience.

In 2017, Jordan and Saudi Arabia signed agreements on cooperation in uranium exploration and carrying out a feasibility study into the construction of two small modular reactors (SMRs) in Jordan.

At that time a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was also signed by KACARE and the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC). Saudi Arabia and Jordan signed a nuclear cooperation agreement in January 2014.
