Peru, on Sunday, officially broke ground on its pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai site, with officials saying that they expect to host over 15 million visitors at the pavilion during the course of the global event.

Rising in the Mobility District of Expo 2020 Dubai, Peru's pavilion is set to showcase the country's cultural diversity and ancient wisdom under the theme 'Timeless, Always Peru'. The pavilion will feature a unique architectural design that evokes the path that the nation has traveled throughout its existence telling stories of 10,000 years. As a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and mega-diverse country, Peru will present opportunities that are rare and highly valued in the world. Officials at the event revealed that they expect the construction of the pavilion to be completed in 11 months time.

"The Expo 2020 Dubai is a great opportunity to promote on the global stage Peru's achievements on the trade, tourism and investment front and consolidate the positioning of the Peru Brand internationally. Peru now fosters an investor-friendly business environment, viewing foreign capital as an important part of the country's development plan," said Edgar V?squez, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Republic Of Peru, who attended the ground breaking ceremony. "The Expo 2020 will be one of the most highly-attended world expos in history. About 10 per cent of the Expo 2020's total visitors, estimated at 15 million people, are expected to visit the Peru pavilion during the six months between October 2020 and April 2021, where Peru will present its wonders to the world."

The pavilion will highlight the link between Peruvians and weaving throughout time, an activity that has gained a presence in almost all areas of the country's culture. This will be elucidated in the Paracas looms, the Q'eswachaka bridge, and the caballitos de totora reed boats that would come to life, among many others, in the pavilion. The imposing walls of Kuélap will welcome the Expo visitors. Peru is home to a section of Amazon rainforest and Machu Picchu, an ancient Incan city high in the Andes mountains - each of them coming alive at the Peru pavilion.

Boasting twelve UNESCO world heritage sites and vast natural reserves, Peru is home to several magnificent archaeological sites that tell the story of ancient civilizations. More than 31 million inhabitants of Peru speak around 50 native languages including Spanish, Quechua and Aymara.

Luis Torres, executive president of PROMPER?, said: "We are extremely proud to be part of the most anticipated World Expo in history. We are coordinating with our partners from the public and private sectors to realize the Peru Pavilion at the Expo and tell the world our stories from the past and the stories made for the future. Peru has been the fastest growing economy in Latin America over the last decade."
