Muscat: The Coast Guard has arrested two smugglers, both foreigners of Asian nationality and seized over 500 kilos of drugs from them.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) in a statement said, The Coast Guard in Musandam Governorate arrested two foreigners of Asian nationality, while they were trying to enter the country illegally through the sea, with large quantities of drugs in their possession."

"The amount of drugs seized on board the boat amounted to 440 kilograms of opium and 133 kilograms of hashish," ROP added.

In another case, the police has arrested six people for beggary and other violations of the law. The ROP said: "Dhofar Governorate Police Command has arrested six people on charges of begging and violating the labour and residence laws for foreigners, and the legal procedures against them are being completed."
