Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has floated Request for Qualification (RFQ) tender for developing two Independent Water Projects (IWP) in Al Batinah region.

Barka V IWP would have a capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per day (m3/day) while North Al Batinah IWP would have a capacity of 150,000 m3/day, the company said in a public notice.

Both IWPs would replace capacities expiring in 2022, according to OPWP's 7-year statement 2018-2024. The statement, which was issued in May, said Barka V IWP will replace Barka IWPP and North Al Batinah IWP will replace Sohar IWPP, noting that the new IWPs would be procured only if initial negotiations to extend the agreements with existing owners do not fructify.

OPWP anticipates Barka V IWP to commence operations in the first quarter of 2022 and the North Al Batinah IWP in the first quarter of 2023.

The RFQ is available until 16 August 2018 and the last bid submission date is 16 September 2018, according to the notice.

OPWP has also invited consultants to submit proposals for updating the company's Resource Options Study. The main objective of the study is to provide an update to resource specification used for medium term (4-8 years) planning in addition to enabling analysis of long term (9-25 years) capacity expansion options for Oman's power systems. The documents can be purchased till 14 August 2018 and bid submission date is 13 September 2018.
