OSLO- Norway's Aasta Hansteen gas field has been shut due to a compressor failure, and the duration of the outage is uncertain, pipeline export system operator Gassco said on Thursday.

Thursday's outage corresponds to 12.9 million cubic metres of gas for the day.

Aasta Hansteen and its surrounding gas deposits have a capacity of 25.8 million cubic metres of natural gas per day, according to Gassco, but around half of that had already been taken out by a planned maintenance event.

For Friday, the unplanned outage would correspond to the field's full capacity of 25.8 million cubic metres, Gassco said.
