Visitors to the Dubai World Expo 2020, the country’s most anticipated event that will start in October this year, are not required to get vaccinated or tested for coronavirus, Bloomberg reported citing a spokesperson.

An estimated 30,000 people are forecast to attend the exhibition every month, with global participants coming from more than 190 countries. It is dubbed as one of the largest real-life events since the coronavirus pandemic began.

“While vaccination is encouraged, visitors to Expo are not currently required to provide proof of immunisation or a negative PCR test,” the spokesperson told Bloomberg News. “However, we will continue to monitor and adjust these measures as necessary as the situation evolves.”

The UAE government has relaxed its travel curbs as the mega event draws near.  Late August 30, UAE announced it would grant tourist visas to travellers from all countries, provided they have been fully vaccinated. Abu Dhabi has also lifted quarantine rules for all vaccinated travellers arriving in the UAE capital.

Precautionary measures

The number of daily coronavirus cases in the UAE, which has one of the world’s highest vaccination rates per capita, have dropped recently to under 1,000.

Organisers of the Dubai Expo 2020 had earlier said that there will still be some COVID-19 protocols to be observed at the site, such as social distancing and wearing of face masks.

Thermal cameras at the exhibition site’s entry points are installed to check the temperature of visitors. Wearing of face masks is required at all times, as well as social distancing of at least two meters.

The Expo venues and common areas will be regularly cleaned and sanitised, while hand sanitiser stations are also spread throughout the site.
