Riyadh –   National Grid SA, a subsidiary of the Saudi Electricity Company, covers more than 13,000 cities and villages across Saudi Arabia, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The Saudi energy supplier stressed its continuous endeavours to develop transmission networks in order to enhance the service and reach all subscribers according to best international standards.

The electricity transmission network in the Kingdom has witnessed significant growth since 2000, reaching a length of about 84,000 kilometres.

Moreover, the number of existing conversion stations reached 1,093 station and 3,465 transformers with a capacity of 424,000 mega volt-ampere.

Waleed Al-Saadi, the acting CEO of National Grid SA, said that the company’s plans aim to keep pace with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and the strategic transformation program of the Saudi Electricity Company.

He added that the company seeks to be the kingdom’s regional hub for electricity linkage between Asia and Africa by linking with Egypt’s network after the completion of the Gulf electrical interconnection system, due to Saudi Arabia’s strategic position between the two continents.

In addition, the strength of the infrastructure of the electrical network in the Kingdom and its ability to meet the needs and requirements of electrical interconnection between countries played a significant role in supporting Saudi Arabia's position between Asia and Africa.
