Dubai-based master developer Nakheel announced on Wednesday that it has awarded four contracts totalling more than 430 million dirhams ($117.07 million) for its Deira Islands waterfront project.
The contracts, covering islands A and B of the four-island development, are for a sewage treatment plant, a district cooling plant, a substation and piling work for an 800-room resort, Nakheel said in a statement.
A joint venture of VWS Emirates and Butec (Dubai Branch) was awarded a 228.3 million dirham contract for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of a sewage treatment plant for 10 years.
Emirates District Cooling (Emicool) was awarded a 100 million dirham contract to build a district cooling plant for Deira Islands Night Souk and nearby buildings, and to operate and maintain the plant for 10 years.
AG Power was awarded 90.5 million dirham contract for the construction of a 132/11kV substation for Island A.
And finally, a 14.5 million dirham piling works contract for the 800-room RIU beach front resort was awarded to Delta Foundations (Dubai branch). The construction tender for the resort, which is a joint venture between Nakheel and Spain’s RIU Hotels and Resorts, was issued in May, and is due to be awarded by the end of this year.
In April, Nakheel awarded a 4.2 billion dirhams construction contract for the Deira Mall to United Engineering Construction (Unec).
Nakheel said in its statement that it has invested nearly 7.5 billion dirhams in infrastructure and construction contracts for Deira Islands, with more in the pipeline. The 15.3 square kilometre waterfront city is expected to add 40 kilometres, including 21km of beach, to Dubai’s coastline.
