Muharraq is all set for a facelift with massive government projects worth millions of dinars planned over the next two years.

Among them are hi-tech medical facilities, roads and infrastructure around Bahrain International Airport and sewage networks for new residential areas.

The projects were presented by Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry Works’ Affairs Under-Secretary Ahmed Al Khayat during a meeting with the Muharraq Municipal Council.

“We are working with a limited budget due to difficult circumstances caused by the Covid-19 pandemic,” Mr Al Khayat said.

PRIORITY

He admitted that some projects were behind schedule owing to strict Covid-19 precautionary measures.

“Health and safety of workers is a priority,” he said.

“However, work on many projects is progressing. We are resolving issues that contractors may face during on field assignments.”

Mr Al Khayat said tasks and timeframes have been set and projects will be completed.

“We, as a ministry, don’t give promises. Public representatives will be informed once projects are finalised and funding is secured.”

Council chairman Ghazi Al Murbati said development plans had to go ahead even in the current circumstances.

“Contractors have to be ready to tackle any issues with their employees or equipment,” he said.
