Kuwait's Tamdeen Group to open region's first Rafa Nadal Academy

The Academy will form part of the upcoming Shaikh Jaber Al Abdullah Al Jaber Al Sabah International Tennis Complex

Kuwaiti property developer Tamdeen Group and Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar have joined hands to open the Gulf region's first Rafa Nadal Academy, it was announced on Wednesday.

The developer said in a press statement that the Academy, housed within the Shaikh Jaber Al Abdullah Al Jaber Al Sabah International Tennis Complex located next to its 360 Mall, would serve as its training and developmental hub.

"The complex which includes a covered 5,000-seater arena and an open-air 1,500-seater secondary court, eight indoor tennis courts, eight outdoor courts and an integrated health club will also play host to international tournaments," said Mohammed Jassim Khalid Al-Marzouq, Chairman of Tamdeen Group at the press conference marking the academy's launch.

The new complex is being developed as public-private partnership (PPP) between Tamdeen and the Kuwait Public Authority for Sport.

The press statement said the academy would feature world-class sporting facilities and international coaching expertise, led by Nuno Marques, Head of Tennis, Rafa Nadal Academy Kuwait.

Rafael Nadal will formally inaugurate the Rafa Nadal Academy in February 2020, the statement noted.
