CAIRO - Undersecretary of Kuwait's Ministry of Justice Abdullatif Al-Sari'e on Friday highlighted the importance of the regional plan of action for the implementation of the international humanitarian law in the Arab region.
 
Kuwait delegation to the 11th meeting of the Arab experts in the implementation of the humanitarian law tabled to the meeting a report on Kuwait's efforts in this regard, including the launching of a national commission, and the working out plans and programs to promote the implementation of this law, he told KUNA.
 
Dr. Al-Sari'e made the comments following the conclusion of the two-day gathering at the Arab League.
 
"Earlier this year, Kuwaiti Minister of Justice and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr. Fahd Al-Afasi reshuffled the standing national commission on the international humanitarian law composed of representatives of various government bodies including the ministries of defense, interior and foreign affairs," he recalled.
 
The commission is mandated to review the judicial verdicts and legislations and legislative amendments relating to the international humanitarian law, Dr. Al-Sari'e pointed out.
 
The meeting reviewed the progress made by the Arab countries towards the enforcement the law and raise awareness about it, as well as the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), he went on.
 
In 2004, Kuwait Institute Judicial and Legal Studies and the ICRC signed a memorandum of understanding to turn Kuwait into a regional center for training the judiciary and prosecutors on the implementation of the international humanitarian law, Dr. Al-Sari'e added.
 
He voiced hope that results of the just-ended meeting would push forward the implementation of the regional plan action for 2018-2020.
