TUNIS - Kuwait Fund for Economic Development (KFAED) on Wednesday initialed a financing agreement worth KD 30 million (USD 98.5 million) to finance a project to improve drinking water in 17 Tunisian governorates.

Head of the Kuwaiti delegation and the engineering consultant at KFAED Ahmad Al-Mujhalim told KUNA that the delegation held talks with representatives of the Tunisian Ministry of Development and Investment and the Tunisian Water Distribution Company.

These negotiations culminated in initialing the agreement, ready for KFAED to continue supporting Tunisia's efforts in its development path, considering the strong ties between both sides, and to promote their development, he added.

The cost of the project amounted to USD 98.5 million, the third installment provided by KFAED to Tunisia for the third year in a row to finance development projects, he explained.

He also admired the level of cooperation between KFAED and Tunisia, which began 56 years ago, providing USD 519 million in funding over the past three decades to 37 development projects.

The project to improve drinking water in urban areas is scheduled to start early next year.

KFAED is a major supporter of Tunisia, with the first funding agreements dating back to 1963.
