AMMAN Agreements for three megaprojects related to water loss, Marka Airport and fiber optic networks will be signed soon, Minister of State for Media Affairs Amjad Adaileh said on Tuesday.

Speaking during a joint press briefing with Health Minister Saad Jaber and Energy Minister Hala Zawati at the Prime Ministry, Adaileh said that Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Omar Razzaz will visit the Jordan Investment Commission during the coming days to learn about existing and future investment opportunities.

On the latest developments and procedures related to the resumption of medical tourism, the minister pointed out that 411 applications have been submitted to the interactive website over the past two days, the majority of them from Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Sudan.

All requests will be evaluated, the minister said, noting that the receiving of medical tourists and following up on their treatment will be organised through the Ministry of Health and the crisis cell in coordination with private hospitals.

He also announced that the Cabinet approved the settlement of the tax status of 228 companies and taxpayers.

During Tuesdays Cabinet session, a number of ministers discussed the priorities of their ministries for 2020 and 2021 in order to complement the outcomes of the prolonged government meeting, which was held last Saturday to review the priorities of government activity, notably addressing the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, he said.

Regarding the comprehensive strategy in the energy sector, Adaileh said that the delay in announcing the strategy is due to the repercussions of the COVID-19 crisis, stressing that the pandemic "will not dissuade" the government from planning for the future.

The need for an energy strategy is increasing, given the importance of this sector and its "great impact" on the national economy, he said.
