Iraq has allocated nearly 5.7 trillion Iraqi dinars ($4.7 billion) for development projects and post-war reconstruction in its governorates within the 2019 budget, an Iraqi official was quoted on Wednesday as saying.

The Southern oil hub of Basra received the lion's share of the funds allocated by the Planning Ministry, with around 1.4 trillion dinars ($1.1 billion), the Ministry's spokesman Abdul Zahra Hindawi told Non News website.

The capital Baghdad received nearly 964 billion dinars ($810 million) while around 316 billion dinars ($265 million) was earmarked for the Southern Dhi Qar governorate, Hindawi said.

Allocations were made proportionately for all other governorates depending on their projects and development requirements, he added.

"All these allocations are part of the governorates' development programme for this year...the funds are being used for development projects, infrastructure, building of schools and reconstruction of war damaged facilities."
