KUWAIT CITY: The Chinese company “Huawei”, with the cooperation of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), launched the new version of its national program “Seeds for the Future 2020” in Kuwait as part of its efforts to build a stronger and more sustainable information and communication technology environment, reports Al-Rai daily.

The opening ceremony was held via the Internet in light of the social distancing measures and health requirements imposed by the spread of COVID-19.

The Deputy Director General of KFAS Dr Salem Al-Hajraf, Chairman of Huawei in the North Gulf Region Liam Chow, and the CEO of the company in Kuwait Rico Lin as well as other representatives of the company and the institution had participated in the ceremony. Students from selected universities in Kuwait were also invited to attend the virtual ceremony, listen to the educational initiative, and get a complete overview of the program.

The educational program aims at developing the ICT skills of Kuwaiti youth, promoting knowledge transfer, securing greater understanding and interest in the technology sector, and encouraging regional participation in the growing digital society in Kuwait. The program is set to host 40 students from Kuwaiti universities.

The participants are expected to receive training in emerging technology areas, including 5G technology, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and leadership skills. The program will enable students to understand the latest technology trends, discover the technological ecosystem in Kuwait, and learn from the best experts.

In his statement, Dr Salem Al-Hajraf said the program has greatly contributed to the advancement and development of young men and women in Kuwait over the past years by providing them with basic skills and knowledge and encouraging them to participate in building Kuwait’s digital economy.

Also, Liam Chow said the program provides students with unique opportunities to learn and have better access to advanced information and communication technology technologies and products
