Sharjah Government successfully concludes its participation in GITEX Technology Week 2019

Dubai, UAE: His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai visited the Sharjah Government Pavilion at the GITEX Technology Week 2019, received by Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Qasimi Director General of eGovernment Department.

The Sharjah Government concluded an impressive participation in the GITEX Technology Week 2019, the region’s premier technology event which was held at Dubai World Trade Centre on October 6th - 10th.

Over a course of five days, Sharjah Government departments vied for demonstrating the digital transformation drive ongoing in the emirate by showcasing their innovative customer-centric digital services and latest launches at a large-scale pavilion where up to 33 government departments participated to showcase the emirate’s transition to digital, knowledge-based economy.

Commenting on the Sharjah Government’s participation in the region’s largest tech event, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Director General of the Sharjah Department of e-Government, said the digital breakthroughs showcased over five days “translate the sage instructions of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Sharjah, to accelerate the emirate’s transition to the digital age and knowledge-based economy.”

He hailed the remarkable evolution and optimum performance witnessed across the emirate’s government departments, noting that “digital economy has become a tangible reality that we all have to be well versed with and meet its challenges.”

Sheikh Khalid expected Sharjah Government to “make great strides over the coming period toward digital transformation in a way that streamlines public services and achieve the ultimate goal of maintaining Sharjah’s enviable status as a preferred investment and tourist destination across the region and the entire world.”

Over five days, the Sharjah Government departments showcased scores of new digital launches and customer-centric services meant to ensure efficiency and transparency in all government transactions.

The University of Sharjah launched ‘UoS Specialization’ a smart app that facilitates the search for the academic specializations offered by the University in an easy, seamless manner, linking these majors with potential career opportunities. The app also allows users to search for available employment opportunities matching their academic degrees.

The Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) launched an AI-enabled chat service with a Virtual Tour Guide. The SCTDA also unveiled an advanced electronic system enabling travel agencies to license their off-road (safari) vehicles.  An interactive hotel statistics generating system was also launched. This is in addition to other innovation that translate the Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021.

Sharjah Institute for Heritage unveiled its holograms revolutionizing digital communication through which the public can interact and learn more about the Emirati traditional crafts. The new technology helps preserve the country's time-honored heritage for generations to come.

The Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Centre (TAHKEEM) launched a smartphone app to streamline arbitration procedures, respond to all public inquiries and display all laws and regulations relevant to commercial arbitration.

The Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority (SPSA) revealed a number of apps as well. These included an initiative to connect smoke detection systems through the operating room of the Sharjah Civil Defence. The new initiative aims to ensure rapid response in case of fire outbreak in order to reduce injuries and casualties. SPSA also launched its new website where all its services are featured and explained. The Authority also unveiled details about the Salama Preventive Training Institute which is accredited by the Sharjah Executive Council to reduce occupational safety and health risks, and prevent accidents in the work environment by offering distinctive training programs for laborers in the Emirate of Sharjah to focus on the importance of health and safety at workplace.

The Dibba Al-Hisn Municipality launched a Smart Meeting Management System  to organize the proceedings of government and private sectors' meetings, including preparation of minutes of meetings, discussions and recommendations. The system gauges completion rates of tasks and assignments and other relevant details.

On the event’s third day and with the objective of ensuring an ideal urban environment, the Directorate of Town Planning and Survey launched an Artificial Intelligence- based response and automated execution of transaction system, using the WhatsApp for providing quick, automated replies to customers' inquiries. The Directorate also launched an innovative system for displaying analytical boards dedicated to the allocation of land and transactions conducted by municipal councils.

Sharjah Centre for Learning Difficulties launched the Centre’s website and smart app. The Centre conducts assessment and diagnosis of persons with learning difficulties at the educational and behavioral levels, and in terms of cognitive, social and behavioral skills. It aims to provide services to people with learning disabilities of all ages, genders and different nationalities residing in the UAE.

Through its participation in GITEX 2019, the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTI Park), aims to develop and manage an innovation ecosystem that promotes research and development and supports enterprise activities and the triple helix collaboration of industry, government, and academia in the fields of Water Technology, Environmental Technology, Renewable Energy, Transportation Technology, Information Technology, Industrial Design and Architecture, and works to support national industries that fall under these themes.

As a public service department, Sharjah City Municipality’s participation in the event reflects its keenness to provide distinguished and comprehensive services that can ensure the satisfaction and happiness of all its customers.

Out of this perspective the municipality showcased a number of advanced technologies, including the Building Completion App; the Digital Innovation Platform; the Digital Volunteering Platform; and the Digital Services Platform.

The Department of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs will launch a device for the manufacture of sustainable agricultural soil. The device uses aluminum residues and charcoal; it’s specially designed to address the shortage the local soil suffers in terms of mineral and agricultural characteristics. This requires increasing its fertility with chemical fertilizers by taking advantage of the aluminum residues from which factories don't benefit due to their environmental hazards, and negative consequences.

The device works through three stations, according to the mechanical pneumatic system. The task of the first station is to filter the soil of stones and useless objects through an automatic filter run by the engine. Then sand descends  smoothly to the second station; the mechanical pneumatic system can carry about eight kilograms of sand while pumping water through a mechanical pump, the task of which is to purify sand of other salts and minerals.

On the fourth day, the Central Finance Department in Sharjah launched the Smile-To-Pay, a new digital payment system based on the facial recognition technology where customers can make a purchase simply by posing in front of point-of-sale machines equipped with cameras, after linking an image of their face to a digital payment system . A 3D camera located at the point-of-sale scans the customer’s face to verify their identity, and ensures the level of safety provided by the Department’s Smart Receipt System "Tahseel", which includes payment through the services of "Samsung Pay" and "Apple Pay", in addition to the availability of contactless payment NFC. It also includes the possibility of payment through instant chat, which is available in the smart application (Chat Pot).

Tahseel is among the best smart electronic financial systems that facilitate the payment of fees using an innovative, safe and hassle-free method, which is available round the clock for Sharjah government entities and users. It not only reduces the risk of using cash, but also offers several benefits for optimal use of modern electronic payment technologies.

The Central Finance Department is therefore the first government entity to employ Artificial Intelligence as an innovative means of communication within its financial system.

The department also launched “Ask Takamol”, an innovative digital process to streamline efficient communications between the users of the Government Financial System ‘Takamol’ and SFD officials.

SFD also launched the Digital Ticketing System to be used as part of Tahseel. Through the new technique, customers can book tickets to visit Sharjah’s multiple tourist attractions on a daily, monthly or annual basis. The digital tickets can also be used to attend edutainment activities hosted by the emirate around the year as well as visit multiple destinations by one unified ticket, which can be purchased individually or in groups and can be dedicated as gifts as well.

The Sharjah Roads & Transport Authority launched its main smartphone app which features advanced electronic services as part of the RTA’s comprehensive digital transformation strategy aimed at optimizing performance and streamlining public services and transactions, according to Mohammed Abdullah Al Buraimi, director of technical services and acting director of IT department, Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority

For its part, the Sharjah Economic Development Department launched its Interactive Chat System, which includes provision of services rendered to investors and all types of customers. Utilizing AI to embed learning functions into computers without prior programming per case, the system serves as an interactive platform that displays all the news, services and new procedures in the field of business.

The Department also introduced its Automated Notary Services for the business sector which have already been approved. This includes, for instance, establishment contracts/ sales contracts / service agent contracts and many other contracts under the classification of the business sector.

The SEDD also launched a set of digital services performed by the system in an AI-powered mechanism, which makes it easier for dealers (investors) to complete their tasks quickly and accurately without the need to go to SEDD in person or visit any service offices.

Commenting on the participation , H.E. Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, Chairman of Sharjah Economic Development Department said, “The innovative services introduced by SEDD re-affirm the Department’s determination to collaborate with all local and international organizations to ensure accelerated knowledge transfer and exchange of expertise as well as standardize international communication channels in keeping with the prudent vision of the His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed AL Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah.”

Also, The Sharjah Real Estate Registration Department launched its official website which features the Department's data and electronic services. The Department’s smart app has also been unveiled.
