BAHRAIN: Supreme Council for Health president Lt Gen Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday reiterated the government’s commitment to shoulder the costs of health insurance for all citizens.

He also announced that services would be expanded and improved for the sake of patients.

This was revealed as he communicated directly with the public via Instagram feature InstaLive.

Dr Shaikh Mohammed said tangible progress had been achieved on work to implement the National Insurance Scheme (Sehati). He expressed hope that parliament would endorse the law.

No financial cap would be put on citizens’ treatment, he said adding that Bahraini nationals would receive treatment at government-run hospitals.

The insurance scheme would cover chronic and incurable diseases. Overseas treatment would be more accessible under the umbrella of the Overseas High Medical Commission, he said.
